DISCHORDIA: “Binge/Purge” EP out June 15th

Dissonant Prog-Death Trio DISCHORDIA announce “Purge” (Excerpt) At Toilet ov Hell and album Binge/Purge out June 15th 2018!

While much of the modern era of death metal is chided for not having a signature sound, groups like Dischordia have continued to thrive by building their own mold bit by bit since their inception in 2010. Drawing inspiration from such forward-thinking metal heavyweights as Decapitated, Gorguts, Meshuggah, and The Dillinger Escape Plan, Oklahoma City’s Dischordia brings a fresh perspective to the progressive metal scene by combining tried-and-true US death metal brutality with far-flung ideas from a multitude of global influences.

After reaching new heights on their 2016 album Thanatopsis, Dischordia recently announced Binge/Purge, an ambitious two-song effort clocking in at just over 24-minutes between two multi-part songs that stretch the band’s writing and playing to a whole new level.

The EP will see release on Friday, June 15th 2018. Esteemed scene veteran Colin Marston (Gorguts, Krallice) was tapped to work his magic on Binge/Purge and expertly handled the releases Mixing and Mastering.

Today the band partnered with Toilet Ov Hell to premiere an extended 3 minute and 55 seconds long excerpt of “Purge”, in lieu of the traditional standalone single format. Similar to how lengthy excerpts as premiere launches for the recent Gorguts EP was handled.

The first premiere, an excerpt of track one, “Binge” showcased the group at their fastest and most ruthless. Today’s launch of track two “Purge” (Excerpt) is more of a slow groovier burner, aided by flute playing towards the end from bassist Josh Turner.

Toilet Ov Hell comments regarding today’s launch of “Purge” (Excerpt):
“Of the two extended-length tracks on Binge/Purge, “Purge” is definitely the heftier, more menacing side. As Stockhausen put it, “It’s the slower, more sludge-influence track in contrast to the fast and furious mood of ‘Binge’.” That sludge-influence mostly manifests in the girthy groove around which the track is built; as you’ll hear in the extract below, “Purge” is built around a hulking, low-end bruiser of a riff that slowly crawls up the mountain in the excellent cover art, dislodging little rains of percussion with its slightly dissonant low-string accents and mechanical drum performance and setting off bass quakes all the way. Even as the riff morphs and mutates slightly on its ascent, that central, down-tuned groove persists, compelling you to bang your head in assent even as it slams you against the earth again and again.”

Dischordia guitarist Keeno comments on Binge/Purge: “Binge/Purge is a modern take on Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy within our own political-cultural system. We enjoy telling stories with our music. Thanatopsis was a new level for us stylistically in searching for our sound. Binge/Purge builds on that progress and allows us to stretch our skills within a concept EP.”
