Hard Rock

Les majors, à qui l’on reproche à raison de ne plus signer de groupe rock/ metal, se sont progressivement spécialisées dans la réédition de luxe de pièces maîtresses du classic rock. Une démarche d’entreprise frileuse qui vise le profit à court terme en minimisant les risques. Mais l’occasion de laver l’affront fait aux fans du Whitesnake de David Coverdale, en chiens d’arrêt depuis les remasters EMI des 5 premiers albums en 2007. Pour ses 35 ans, “Slide It In” se voit décliner en 6 CD et 1 DVD dans un coffret roboratif. Nous sommes en janvier 1984: le groupe, tête d’affiche des Monsters Of Rock ’83, boxe chez les poids lourds et opère une mue sonore. Selon le principe des vases communicants, son blues se délite au profit d’un hard US annonciateur d’une pluie de billets verts: le conservateur Micky Moody (guitare) claque la porte pendant que le fringuant John Sykes entre par la fenêtre… Deux line-ups pour deux pressages d’un LP destiné respectivement aux marchés européen et américain. C’est sur ce dernier que les chorus harmonisés de “Guilty Of Love” sonnent plus Thin Lizzy que nature. Le pourquoi du comment est disséqué dans un beau livre de 60 pages, collection de coupures de presse, pochettes de singles, et planches-contacts de la session photo de Miss “verso” (différente du modèle “recto”, trop farouche) et son python libidineux. Et comme il est de bon ton, depuis l’anthologie des Beatles, d’inclure pléthore de chutes de studio, signalons que “Body Heat” (CD n°6) mérite une attention particulière puisqu’il pose les bases de “Still Of The Night” (1987). Voilà qui place la barre très haut pour le coffret des 30 ans de “Slip Of The Tongue” prévu en fin d’année.
