Here is an excellent smooth jazz album presented to us by Fabio Puglisi, a multi-instrumentalist from Syracuse, Italy, known for his project Soul Basement with singer Jay Nemor. He has now developed the project called The Park Avenue Experience. After their first album released in 2020, here comes their second one, “Time and Time Again.”
The Park Avenue Experience consists of:
• Fabio Puglisi – Piano & Keys
• Tony Vinci – Guitar
• Darius Martin – Bass
• Enrico Aprile – Drums
This album captivates us to the point of feeling like we are listening to one of our American smooth jazz friends, who, as you know, have their own codes and values. It must be noted that The Park Avenue Experience stands among the greats in this very specific genre, both in terms of compositions, arrangements, and groove. This is quite rare and noteworthy for a European group, as they often tend to imitate rather than create in the realm of smooth jazz.
Their uniqueness certainly comes from their handling of the bass, a deep and round bass that is usually found more in R&B albums. Fabio Puglisi charms us with his melodies, aided by excellent musicians. The only regret is not having seen this group perform live, as it must be fascinating.
“Time and Time Again” is highly recommended for all smooth jazz enthusiasts due to its originality and the qualities we have already mentioned. The only thing missing from this group is perhaps a brass section. Who knows? Maybe it will be included in their next album, as that is likely the only thing they lack.
An exceptional album that you can acquire with the recommendations of Bayou Blue Radio and Paris-Move, who consider it an “essential” in its category.
