On a tous en mémoire l’album Absolutely Live des Doors, double album live devenu culte, indispensable et incontournable, compilation de titres enregistrés entre juillet 1969 et mai 1970 durant 8 concerts. Voilà qu’est sorti un triple album de 37 titres dont 3 instrumentaux (Milt Jackson, Miles Davis, George Gerschwin), et quelques interprétations (Allen Toussaint, B.B. King, James Moore, Van Morrison)… Les captations sont datées du 7 et 10 mars 1967 (2 concerts) et se sont déroulées au Matrix, 3138 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, Californie, un Club mythique de San Francisco de la fin des 60’s (ouvert en 1965) lié à la scène psychédélique. C’est d’ailleurs là que le Jefferson Airplane et bien d’autres groupes ont débuté. Cet album se borne finalement à ne transmettre que les retransmissions de 2 journées intenses. Jim Morrison est aux chant, tambourin, maracas et harmonica, Robby Krieger à la guitare et aux chœurs, Ray Manzarek aux claviers Vox Continental, Hammond, au piano électrique Fender Rhodes, au piano basse Rhodes, et John Densmore à la batterie et aux percussions. Le groupe se livre sans compter au cours de deux soirées de 3 sets, d’une durée de près d’une heure quarante où ils jouent des titres qui resteront dans les annales: When The Music’ Over, Alabama Song, The End, Break On Through (To The Other Side), People Are Strange, Light My Fire, The End. Un super document à posséder impérativement!
