THE BLUES MESSENGERS – UNCUT

Blues

From the first few seconds, from the first notes of the first track of this album, you just know that you are listening to one of the best CDs of the year. The first track, “Devil’s Gone Fishing”, should feature in the “Best of” the best ten tracks of the decade. The trio, made up of ‘Sir’ Oliver Mally (guitars and vocals), Alex Meik (bass) and Peter Müller (drums), not only demonstrate that they fully deserve their name, Blues Messengers, but also that they can play one of the best blues we’ve heard for a long while.
By the end of the first track, you feel as if you are in a melancholic and intimate world which hits straight to the heart. Oliver Mally’s voice is warm, tender and full of emotion. An emotion he shares with you in such a way that you feel you are right next to him.
The magic in this album is that each instrument oozes the same warm and intimate atmosphere. The instruments whilst being present are also very light. The quality of the recording and mastering must also be highlighted. The painstaking and intricate work of a goldsmith which gives this album an incredible brightness!
The three Blues Messengers lead you into a musical dream which takes over your senses from the start of the album and from which you never want to leave.
You don’t listen to the music of the Blues Messengers… you feel it, you breathe it, you make it your own, as if you were missing something, something that was always there. It is the same feeling you have when you first meet someone you believe is your soul mate, the one you have always waited for.
A new album full of maturity and dedication, ‘Uncut’ is an invitation to follow the Blues Messengers on a journey of eleven stages. Eleven tracks, each more beautiful than the other. After the magnificent “Drivin’ Blues”, you dive in with the three artists in their “21st Century Blues”. Three artists who are undeniably the artisans of a great musical moment, an incredibly rare moment of beauty and mellowness.
And when a track cuts through the intimacy shining throughout this album, such as the memorable “Devil’s Gone Fishing”, the energy is channelled, wrapped in the softest of cottons, so smooth it cannot disturb the dreams of the night.
There are sometimes and only sometimes albums of such quality and beauty that there is only one word to describe them: monumental.
Respect to the Blues Messengers!
