Texas – The Very Best Of (1989-2023) – ENG review

Pias - Available
Folk, Pop

Being in Texas to talk about this Very Best Of album from the Scottish band Texas is amusing. Indeed, once again, the label Pias releases a high-quality Best Of compilation to celebrate this band that has been active since 1986. They have consistently delivered hit songs, decade after decade, while maintaining their unique blend of pop and folk. The beautiful voice of lead singer Sharleen Spiteri and the band’s creative songwriting are the cornerstone of their magnificent international success.
We all remember songs like “I Don’t Want A Lover,” “Summer Son,” “Put Your Arms Around Me,” and many more. Several generations have danced to the music of Texas, a band worth listening to not only for the quality of their compositions but also for their often profound lyrics, which reflect the changing societal perspectives throughout the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, and likely for years to come. Texas has a special ability to reinvent themselves, as demonstrated by their latest album released in 2021 (Hi). When can we expect their next album?
To keep us entertained and satisfy both old and new fans of Texas, we have this Very Best Of compilation, which truly lives up to its name. It was certainly not an easy task to select 24 tracks that represent the band so well, especially when considering the effort put into finding high-quality songs beyond their chart-topping hits. The end result provides a good overview of Texas’ long and fruitful career.
“The Conversation,” “Everyday Now,” and many other tracks bring back fond memories and can be happily hummed once again. It’s also appreciated that Pias chose not to remix the songs, allowing us to rediscover the original sounds and atmospheres of each era in which they were created. These recordings span the years from 1989 to 2023.
Available as a double album in both CD and vinyl formats, the relatively understated album cover adds to the overall quality. Regardless of the format you choose, you’ll have a beautiful item in your hands. Texas represents a part of our collective memory that has filled our evenings with joy. We can only wish them continued success and the creation of more beautiful songs in the future.
