Paul Tuvman – In My Life

Smooth Jazz
Paul Tuvman – In My Life

“I grew up in a house full of good music. My mom (Estelle) is an incredible artist and was a competent pianist (classical). I started the piano at age 8 and learned the fundamentals and focused mostly on classical music. I moved on to more contemporary music: Standards, Pop, and Boogie Woogie. I took a pause in my piano playing to learn the guitar. I mostly focused on folk music and finger picking. I realized I was a better pianist than guitarist so I got back into the piano (age 12) and focused on the blues. I studied with Dave (Cat) Cohen who recognized I had a good ear. Dave taught me song architecture along with improvisational skills. I got into playing in bands at a young age and built up a good reputation in the West Los Angeles music scene.
I studied music at Santa Monica College

Early influences: Ray Charles, Oscar Peterson, Nat King Cole, Vince Guaraldi, Dave Brubeck & Bill Evans. I loved Leon Russell, Joe Sample, Chuck Leavell and Ray Manzarek. I was heavily influenced by the music of the Beatles. Some of the current players I love listening to: Diana Krall, Beegie Adair, David Benoit, Herbie Hancock, Ramsey Lewis, Stevie Wonder, Dave Grusin, Bob James (just to name a few!)

I started flying planes in 1976 and have been a pilot at Delta Airlines since 1986. I’m still currently flying and am a B777 Captain. I fly the International long haul routes

I have 3 music projects currently out: “Musically Speaking”, “Riding the Jetstream” and my latest all Beatles tribute project titled “In my Life”. The Beatles shaped a big part of my musical life. I picked 12 tunes from their vast catalogue and tried to make them my own while maintaining the integrity of the original tunes. It was produced by Jamey Tate and has an incredible rhythm section and guest artists including: Peter White, Rong-Huey Liu, Mindi Abair, Dave Koz, Rick Braun and Vincent Ingala.”
