Non, je ne vous ferai pas toute l’histoire de la carrière incroyable de ce fantastique artiste, chanteur, auteur, compositeur qui a côtoyé autant d’artistes talentueux que de têtes couronnées, lors de ses concerts. Sachez seulement que de 1997 à 2003 il a été la fantastique voix des Platters… et donc celui qui interprétait le mythique titre “Only You” de façon magistrale. Il a également écrit pour le groupe anglais Incognito, enregistré des musiques de film, mais il y a tant à dire sur le personnage que je préfère vous renvoyer à sa biographie dont vous trouverez le lien ci-dessous, en fin de chronique.
Concentrons-nous maintenannt sur ce nouveau CD qui paraît ce 17 septembre, “Reflections”, et qui, à lui seul, est une véritable référence “smooth jazz”. Un album d’une qualité remarquable, comme vous pouvez vous en rendre compte avec la promo que nous en assurons sur Bayou Blue Radio et JazzBox Radio, avec le titre “Your Mama Told You So”.
Maitriser le smooth jazz n’est pas chose aisée, mais Paul B Allen III en assure et vous en démontre une maîtrise parfaite, non seulement en puisant dans ses racines, mais ajoutant ici ou là des touches soul ou funk tout en ayant une réelle interprétation intelligente de chaque titre. En “special guest”, une très belle voix, à découvrir, celle de la chanteuse Mary-Anne Sterling, que nous ne connaissons pas ici, et que nous trouvons particulièrement remarquable sur le titre “This Night”.
Paul B Allen III, c’est un artiste de la même classe qu’un Billy Paul ou un Barry White, une voix chaude, unique, et l’album “Reflections” qui sort ce 17 septembre est assurément à classer dans les “indispensables” de la rédaction de Paris Move et de Bayou Blue Radio, car ce genre d’album est incontestablement une référence, qui parle autant à notre âme qu’à notre cœur, et qui vous donnera aussi une inévitable envie… de danser.

Résumé de cet ouvrage: “From Karaoke to the Platters” is the inspirational tale of how Paul B Allen III went from singing in karaoke establishments, to become the lead singer of one of the greatest vocal groups of all time, The Platters (Only You; Smoke Gets In Your Eyes; The Great Pretender, etc.). Paul was not allowed entry into his elementary school chorus because of his “tin ear,” so the trip from “reject’ to lead vocalist was an incredible journey. Paul shares that journey, as well as all the things he did, step by step, that led him to performing at venues like the world-famous Kennedy Center, backed by the National Symphony Orchestra, and his singing for the rich and famous all around the world, including performing for the Royal Family in London, Prince Albert in Monaco, and being invited to the White House to perform for the President of the United States of America. This book is made up of two parts that are linked together by Paul’s real-life experiences in the music industry, as an internationally published songwriter and as the lead vocalist of The Platters.
