Pour ce nouveau CD de Mary Chapin Carpenter, il s’agit d’une plongée dans ses 12 albums parus précédemment, une sélection judicieuse des titres qui fait que si l’on ne connaît pas bien son parcours, on imagine aisément qu’il s’agit d’un album conçu pour l’occasion. Vu l’impressionnant parcours discographique de la chanteuse, il aura fallu pas mal de temps pour sélectionner les titres, les réarranger en mode purement acoustique puis, pour Mary Chapin Carpenter, se rendre au studio Real World de Peter Gabriel, pour l’enregistrement.
Seule et unique nouveauté, la chanson qui a donné son titre à l’album, “Sometimes Just The Sky”, qui fait référence à un discours de Patti Smith.
Au-delà de ces considérations, à une époque où nous sommes submergés de notes et de rythmes, ici on fait place à la lisibilité. Tout au plus une à deux guitares au son plus que parfait, une contrebasse sage et concentrée, et parfois une batterie qui vient épauler le tout, avec en prime la ravissante voix de Mary Chapin Carpenter. Que demander de plus…?
