En France, vous ne connaissez certainement pas cette incroyable vocaliste, Maci Miller, qui fait partie de la génération montante du jazz aux USA. “Round Midnight” est le cinquième album de Maci Miller, et c’est un pari audacieux avec voix et guitare, et de ce côté là David O’ Rourke fait des merveilles! Le talent de ce musicien ferait rougir de jalousie un bon nombre de guitaristes qui pensent avoir ce feeling, cette sensibilité et ce touché qui sont la signature de ce grand artiste qu’est David O’ Rourke. “Round Midnight” est un album de reprises, enregistré et arrangé live, d’une fraicheur et d’une spontanéité que je n’avais pas entendus depuis les fameux duos Joao Gilberto & Stan Getz. Les années on passées, les générations d’artistes aussi, et la beauté de cet album de Maci Miller réside en deux choses: une merveilleuse interprétation visionnaire plongée vers le futur, et soutenue en celà par un magicien de la guitare dont la carrière parle pour lui, David O’ Rourke. Ainsi, que ce soit “Round Midnight”, “Quiet Nights” ou “Nature Boy”, les œuvres ne sont jamais dénaturées, les arrangements sont beaux et discrets, soutenant avec légèreté et efficacité le superbe voix de Maci Miller.
A une époque ou les principaux labels de jazz en Europe forcent les artistes à reprendre divers standards en massacrant allègrement l’œuvre de Joni Mitchell et autres artistes dans le seul but de “faire des ventes”, ici, avec “Round Midnight”, Maci Miller joue la carte de la simplicité et de l’intelligence, et c’est à saluer, car tous les standards présent sur ce CD ont déjà eu dans le passé des interprètes de haut niveau, auxquels il n’est pas facile de se frotter. Pour une chanteuse, interpréter un titre devrait toujours passer par une forme de travail d’acteur, comme c’est le cas ici, plaçant les ambiances voulues sur chaque titre, simplement par les modulations de sa voix. Et cela, Maci Miller le réussit avec une magie qui nous ensorcelle. Oui, Maci Miller est une grande artiste à découvrir d’urgence, et “Round Midnight” un album indispensable qui trouvera sa place autant dans les cadeaux de Thanksgiving le 28 novembre aux USA que sous le sapin pour ceux qui fêtent Noël, car c’est un album “indispensable” pour la rédaction de Bayou Blue Radio & Paris-Move.

In France, you certainly do not know this incredible vocalist, Maci Miller, who is part of the rising generation of jazz in the USA. “Round Midnight” is Maci Miller’s fifth album, and it’s a daring bet with vocals and guitar, and on that side David O ‘Rourke works wonders! The talent of this musician would make a good number of guitarists blush with jealousy who think they have the feeling, the sensitivity and touch that are the signature of this great artist, David O ‘Rourke. “Round Midnight” is an album of covers, recorded and arranged live, with a freshness and a spontaneity that I had not heard since the famous duos Joao Gilberto & Stan Getz. Years gone by, generations of artists too, and the beauty of this Maci Miller album lies in two things: a marvelous visionary interpretation plunging into the future, and backed up by a guitar magician whose career speaks for him, David O ‘Rourke. Thus, whether “Round Midnight”, “Quiet Nights” or “Nature Boy”, the works are never distorted, the arrangements are beautiful and discreet, supporting lightly and effectively the beautiful voice of Maci Miller.
At a time when the major jazz labels in Europe are forcing artists to revert to various standards by blithely slaughtering the work of Joni Mitchell and other artists for the sole purpose of “making sales”, here with “Round Midnight”, Maci Miller plays the card of simplicity and intelligence, and it is to salute, because all the standards present on this CD have already had in the past high level performers, which is not easy to rub . For a singer, interpreting a title should always go through a form of acting work, as is the case here, placing the desired moods on each title, simply by the modulation of her voice. And that, Maci Miller succeeds with a magic that bewitches us. Yes, Maci Miller is a great artist to discover urgently, and “Round Midnight” an indispensable album that will find its place as much in the gifts of Thanksgiving November 28 in the US as under the tree for those who celebrate Christmas, because it is an “essential” album for the editorial staff of Bayou Blue Radio & Paris-Move.
