Phonétiquement, Lucius peut se traduire en anglais par appétissant. Pour son quatrième album (au titre simplement éponyme), le quartette paritaire de Los Angeles (mais originaire de Brooklyn) n’a une fois encore rien cédé au hasard. Toujours menée par la paire de chanteuses et compositrices Jess Wolfe et Holly Laessig, la formation délivre onze nouvelles confiseries de sa fabrication. Entre Abba (“Final Days”, “Hallways”, “Borderline”, “Orange Blossoms”), Tears For Fears (“Gold Rush”, “Impressions”), Simon & Garfunkel (“Mad Love”, “At The End Of The Day”) et le Fleetwood Mac californien (“Do It All For You”, “Stranger Danger”, “Old Tape”), ces pros d’une pop léchée et intemporelle (calibrée au micron près par le batteur Dan Molad, qui en assure la production) accueillent comme de rigueur quelques guests de renom (ainsi d’Adam Granduciel de War On Drugs). Vu d’ici (à plusieurs milliers de miles des décors ensoleillés de leur Beverly Hills d’élection), tout ceci peut paraître quelque peu compassé (même si l’on n’est gère surpris que son tandem vocal harmonisé jouisse d’une telle réputation parmi son showbiz local). Bien qu’ils ne risquent pas quant à eux de remporter l’Eurovision, la relève de Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha et Frida semble donc assurée. Ne vous laissez pas abuser par la dimension carnassière de leur lay-out: ces gens sont juste des amis des canidés (dûment dressés, cela va de soi).
