Lizzie Thomas – Duo Encounter (ENG review)

Diotime Records
Jazz

Like all jazz singers in search of universal recognition, you’ll find the evergreen titles such as “Nature Boy” and “Both Sides” here, which have been so extensively covered by this type of singer that I can’t even listen to them anymore. Despite being perfectly recorded, with technically impeccable vocals from the singer, and featuring jazz stars such as Ron Carter, John Di Martino, and Russel Malone, the album is incredibly dull, with each accompanist seemingly struggling to break out of ultra-classic arrangements.
Fortunately, there are many other albums that have just arrived that can be enjoyed with relish. The editors of Paris-Move and Bayou Blue Radio only awarded this album two stars (2**), to be reserved for those of you who enjoy ultra-classic jazz without any risk-taking.
